Yuan Pei

"My name is Yuan Pei, just the same as the province. But you can call me Daniel. You know where my English name comes from? The Jack Daniels, whiskey. My first English class my teacher asked me for my English name and the whiskey was the first thing that came to me, so I chose Daniel. The first year here I lived in an apartment and now I just bought my house. My neighbors all came to my door and said hello to me, that made me feel very good. Now I want to pay them back, I want to do more things for my neighbors and this society if I can. I have some friends here, they’re my neighbors in my apartment building. Maybe it’s because of the different culture because local people they are really kind, but there is still distance. I can understand, I don’t want to break it, to interrupt. I don’t want to do that because people want to keep their social distance, it makes them feel comfortable. I don’t want to break that balance, but it’s different."
